Peanut Festival

Peanuts are very big in Edenton, both literally and figuratively.  Some of the biggest peanuts in the world are grown near the town's major industry.

Of the 15,000 acres of cropland in Chowan County, more than 6,000 are planted in peanuts. and Edenton has three major peanut processing plants.  So it was only natural that the town start a Peanut Festival, which it did in 1976.

Held the first weekend in October to celebrate the harvest, the festival features a peanut parade, peanut picking demonstrations, peanut rolling races (you roll 'em with your nose), and other events.  Plenty of peanuts are available to eating raw, roasted, fried or made into peanut brittle.
